Panama Canal Reduces Maximum Authorized Draft for Neopanamax Transits Effective 3 July 2026

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has announced a reduction in the maximum authorized draft for vessels transiting the Neopanamax Locks. Effective 3 July 2026, the maximum allowable draft will be 49.5 feet (15.09 meters) Tropical Fresh Water (TFW).

According to the ACP, the adjustment forms part of its proactive water management strategy and follows ongoing monitoring of reservoir levels and weather forecasts, including the potential development of El Niño conditions later this year. The measure is intended to preserve water resources while maintaining the Canal's operational reliability and transit capacity.

Operators, charterers, and vessel planners with ships scheduled to transit the Neopanamax Locks are encouraged to review loading plans and voyage calculations to ensure compliance with the revised draft limitation.

The ACP has indicated that continued investments in water conservation and reservoir management have enhanced the Canal's resilience to climate variability and will support stable operations moving forward.

We will continue to monitor Panama Canal advisories and provide updates on any operational measures that may impact vessel transits.
